Storage and Packaging

Our products are stored to optimise product stability, i.e. in darkness, under nitrogen and at low temperatures whenever needed. They are packed in suitable ampoules, vials and flask for protection and with the aim of facilitating handling and minimising product loss.

Product Identity and Purity

Larodan takes pride in supplying a wide range of lipids of high and documented purity.
   As an extra service to lipid researchers and analysts we deliver a chromatogram or a data sheet with most products verifying purity and identity of single compounds or mixtures.

Chromatograms

The chromatograms that we supply are either based on gas (GC) or thin layer chromatography (TLC). We use up to date capillary column GC to test the purity of volatile lipid compounds such as fatty acid methyl esters and hydrocarbons.Fatty acids, monoglycerides and other non-volatile compounds are derivatized (methylation, silylation) to become accessible to GC testing.
   Non-volatile compounds not suitable for derivatization or direct GC testing are assessed by TLC on silica gel or aluminium oxide as stationary phase.

Documentation

On all chromatograms are stated relevant test parameters, i.e. type of GC column, flow rate, temperatures (GC) , solid phase, mobile phase, detection agent (TLC).
   The kind of documentation supplied with a particular compound is indicated at Documentation at the introduction of each lipid class in this catalogue.
   The identity of lipid standards or intermediates during manufacturing is checked by chromatographic or physical methods against physical data or known standards.
   Lipid reference mixtures are accurately weighed together using pre-checked components of known identity and purity.
